Dr. Kaira Zoe Alburo-Cañete is a scholar and Senior Researcher at the Humanitarian Studies Centre, International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam. As she prepared her application for the NWO Veni grant, she sought a compelling presentation to communicate her vision clearly and confidently. Her research focused on the role of mutual aid in humanitarian response—an urgent topic that required clarity, structure, and thoughtful storytelling.
Challenge
The challenge was to transform a complex research proposal into a clear, engaging narrative and to create a slide deck that not only conveyed the depth of her research but also resonated with the evaluators, making her application stand out.
Approach
I collaborated closely with Kaira to distill her research into key messages, structuring the content into bite-sized, visually engaging slides. By incorporating thematic visuals and a cohesive design, we crafted a narrative that highlighted the significance of mutual aid in humanitarian contexts, ensuring clarity and impact.
Result
The final slide deck presented Kaira’s research in a compelling and accessible format, enhancing the overall quality of her Veni grant application. The visual storytelling approach effectively communicated the importance of her work, increasing its appeal to the funding committee.
