Editorial & Magazine Design
Client
Travel Bumi, named after the word for “world” in Bahasa Malaysia, is an independent quarterly magazine that invites readers to experience new destinations through stories that celebrate culture, nature, and adventure.
Challenge
The magazine needed a rich, immersive visual identity that would do justice to the vibrant photography and varied locations featured in each issue. The goal was to create a layout that felt both elevated and personal—transporting readers while maintaining a consistent editorial structure.
Approach
I designed a photography-first layout, letting bold imagery lead the storytelling across full-bleed spreads and flexible, dynamic grids. Each issue incorporated subtle visual cues—colour palettes, textures, and icons—drawn from the local culture of the destinations featured, adding a layer of storytelling through design. To ensure consistency and scalability, I developed a modular editorial system with reusable templates for headlines, sidebars, quotes and captions.
Result
The result is a distinctive, high-impact magazine that feels editorially rich yet emotionally connected. Each destination is brought to life visually, and the modular system allows for smooth production of future issues while keeping the Travel Bumi identity intact.
